Most of you might haven’t heard this before, Geo Meta Tags are there since long time, they are used for Geographic identification for various media like Photographs, Websites, RSS feeds and videos. they consists of lattitudes, longitudes, distance, region and various factors related to those region.

The ignorance of Geo Meta Tags started with Google excluding the importance of these tags into their algorithm, this has been confirmed recently by their Technology head Matt Cutt in one his interview and also conveyed in web masters world forum but Bing search engine still follow these tags to identify the websites region and display the results, we never know how much importance bing will give to sort the search results based on Geographic location but can be tried to find the results. Still someone from yahoo has to respond whether they consider Geo Meta Tags in sorting their search results.

By using Google Webmaster Tools, we can specify the target country of our website so Google will know where to rank it for SERPS. So if we have a .co.uk site and target UK in Webmaster Tools, then it should rank better in Google.co.uk than in Google.com.
