What is a Glue Record?

When you look for a DNS report for your domain at dnsstuff.com, you sometimes might get errors like Glue Records not found for the name servers listed. you will be confused to see this error, if you do everything perfectly also you will get this error, it is very simple to fix this error.

A glue record is the IP address of a name server mentioned at the domain name registrar. They are required when you wish to set the name servers of a domain name to a hostname under the domain name itself.

If you want to set the name servers of domainname.com to ns1.domainname.com and ns2.domainname.com you would need to also provide the glue records (i.e. the IP addresses) for ns1.domainname.com and ns2.domainname.com.

If you did not provide the glue records for these name servers then your domain name would not work as anyone requiring DNS information for it would get stuck in a loop:

What is the name server for domainname.com? -> ns1.domainname.com
What is the IP address of ns1.domainname.com? -> don’t know, try looking at name server for domainname.com
What is the name server for domainname.com? -> ns1.domainname.com
…and so on.

With the glue record in place the registry will hold the IP address and the loop will not occur:

What is the name server for domainname.com? -> ns1.domainname.com
What is the IP address of ns1.domainname.com? -> [IP Address]

To resolve this simple point your name servers with A records to the IP addresses assigned. i mean full name server like ns1.domainname.com to A record to its respective IP address. when you do this Glue Records not found error will be solved and no 2 times look ups for DNS, your sites will load faster.
