2011 is the year of “Panda”, more than 10 updates happened and many of the large and small websites got hit by Panda effect. Google rolled out Panda to get rid of content farms who produce content at cheap cost and push to internet where no one is interested in reading those articles. Lot of start-ups mushroomed in last 2 years who just want to acquire content and push it to search engines and do some SEO to get their pages rank well, the days are gone now panda is a progressive algorithm and getting better and better everyday.

Google-Panda

What is Panda?
Panda is ranking factor introduced by Google to get rid of junk websites from their index. It will not directly effect pagerank but will send out signals to Google’s master algorithm about the websites performance, quality and user behavior. It is something like out of 10 points if your website scores more than 6 or 7 points it indicates that the content in your website is not useful for the readers and the score will be calculated based on many factors like Manual reviews, user behavior, bounce rate, quality of the content, Social Media and speed of the website.

Here are some of the strategies recommended to be adopted in 2012 to avoid Panda effect:

Speed of the website:
Website loading speed will become the major factor in 2012 to rank better in search engine results, user’s have more choices on every topic/product nowadays and can’t wait more than 4 seconds to load the website which leads to huge bounce rate and automatically it effects your website rankings. Google introduced PageSpeed last year and given access for developers as well to develop products on top of it, it will give you recommendations for your website on how to load your website faster. Apart from PageSpeed you may also look at Pingdom load time analysis tool.

Google PageSpeed

IBEE Solutions recommendations for increasing the speed of your website:

  • Host your website in India, Now IBEE Hosting is hosting all its customers websites in India, contact sales at 040-44254242 for more details.
  • Use CDN for hosting images and JS files or use public APIs for hosting JS files
  • leverage browser caching using .htaccess
  • Hire an experienced website designer / developer to audit your website

Website Design and Coding:
You may have multiple options or sources to get your website designed or developed but getting your website designed with professional web developer matters to Google, it is now not tolerating poor coding sites and bad navigation websites, this will lead to more bounce rate even though your website is related to those keywords. Having more bounce rate will indicate Google that your website visitors are not satisfied with the content on your website.

Social Media Strategy:
By just having a fan page in Facebook and twitter account you can’t get your website ranked well in Google, you need to engage more frequently with your Facebook page fans Google now started indexing Fan pages and its comments, the same applies for twitter as well. The more signals Google receive from Social Media the more your chance to increase your webpage authority.

Quality of the content:
Gone are the old days to hire a content writer and write some 250 words per article and push it to search engines with basic SEO efforts. Now Google is analyzing pages on the basis of how descriptive and narrative the content is published. An image or video describing the event/article will be plus to rank your article in search engines now. Panda somehow become very strong in identifying websites that grabs content and automate it, it banned many websites in last one year it is not advisable to use any plugins or custom to grab the content and push to search engines, it also identifies rewritten content as well so better be out of these old techniques and start producing genuine content with useful information.

Now Google is warning wordpress site owners

Posted on  June 22, 2011  by  Pavan Kumar

Categories: Google, Wordpress

Have a websites that still uses the older version of WordPress? Well, it is time to update the WordPress site to secure your site from hackers.

The Google Webmaster team has been quite busy sending notification to the owners of websites who are still using an older version of WordPress, as per the reports given by State of Search many users and owners of WordPress sites who still are functioning their sites on previous WordPress versions have been getting warnings from the team specifying the same and should be taken care of at the earliest.

WordPress declares that throughout the entire globe they have over 47 million deployments, they also accept that the older WordPress versions possibly are susceptible to permit the hackers inject malevolent files into any site which is least expected to contain any malware.

When asked for confirmation, Matt Cutts who works for Search Quality Group in Google has promptly tweeted that Google freshly has started to enlighten the webmasters about the insecurities in the previous WordPress version. It looks like this is what Google has actually proposed to do two years ago, but they have never really got this process into action.

Certain webmasters consider it a good move by Google forcing them to update WordPress which also specifies that the quality websites which use WordPress but have not yet updated are vulnerable to attacks from hackers posing a threat for spam in SERPs.

Google warns wordpress version upgrade

Are you thinking how Google has known about the WordPress version you are using for your website? It is quite simple you have carefully observed the code any time which gives the version of WordPress clearly.

Simple procedure has to be followed to improvise the existing WordPress, the first thing would be to immobilize the existing plug-ins, take back up of the site and click on the upgrade link directly. If you do not know whether the version using now is updated or not , the users will get a message on the top of screen in yellow box along with the updates available after the website owners have logged into their WordPress for the site

Along with the WordPress it is also essential to update the plug-ins which are equally prominent since they are the main reason to amplify the website functionality which are also regularly updated by the open source community.

Tags: Facebook Deals, Google Offers, Groupon

Most of you might be knowing what is Groupon by now, Groupon is a group buying concept implemented successfully over web. Businesses can post their deals on Groupon to get more sales without any marketing efforts. Recently Google make an effort to acquire Groupon for an whooping amount of $6 Billion but Groupon rejected that offer.

Google might got hurt after the Groupon rejection and targeted Groupon directly, first they started with Panda volume II update, during this Google algorithm update most of the coupons, deals based websites lost their rankings drastically in Google search results and then they come up with Google Offers which is a much similar concept of Groupon.com, this program is currently in Beta and will be available soon into the market.

Facebook – the social media giant also got hurt by Groupon, as many of the facebook users logging into groupon using Facebook connect/login and doing transactions on Groupon, now Facebook also want to enter into this lucrative and high potential venture to offer deals and coupons to the existing Facebook users, they started Facebook Deals and partnered with some 11 companies like OpenTable, GiltCity and Home Run etc and offering deals.

We need to wait and see who will win this game, definitely Groupon has more advantage in this area. For more information on Social Media Marketing contact us at +91-40-44254242

Why a website don’t get visitors even if it appears in search results?

WEFSJSXCUECT

Most of the SEO professionals and companies who hire them think, that they have done a good job when their website appears in top ten search results for desired keywords but the truth is, even if your website appears in top ten search results there is no guarantee that you get more visitors for your website, this is because of the user click through behavior and how user’s eye scan the search results page.

Golden Tirangle

According to the studies conducted by various UX statistical companies, the key location for the users eye on the Google search results page is like a triangle from the top left first result. This area is also referred as “Golden Triangle” in this area for most of the search queries you will see the results of top sponsored results, top organic results and for sometimes news results, shopping results, Google Places results for long tail keywords with location name in it.

Here is how the visibility reach for the top ten Google search results according to a survey conducted by Eye Tools:

Rank 1 – 100%
Rank 2 – 100%
Rank 3 – 100%
Rank 4 – 85%
Rank 5 – 60%
Rank 6 – 50%
Rank 7 – 50%
Rank 8 – 30%
Rank 9 – 30%
Rank 10 – 20%

If you observe the above rankings, top 3 positions have 100% click through rate (CTR) and for rank 3 and rank 6 the difference is almost 50%, so from this stats, you can understand that how users are accessing Google search results. If you see the image of Golden Triangle, you can observe that the Ads appearing on the right hand side having less impact, only the top one AD is getting more clicks, the difference between top sponsored ad and bottom is almost 90%, so it is better to be in first three places in sponsored listing as well to get more attention.

So instead of just being in top ten rankings, try to be in top three rankings for your desired keywords to achieve better results. For SEO Services contact us at +91-40-44254242 or mail to info@ibeesolutions.com

What is pubsubhubbub?

Posted on  April 10, 2011  by  Betrand

Categories: Google, SEO
Tags: Plagiarism, pubsubhubbub

For me “pubsubhubbub” is a weired name to hear but Google want to name this tool like this to help publishers to fight against plagiarism and ping Google bots whenever you update your blog. First let me explain technically about this new tool from Google, pubsubhubbub is a simple, open, server-to-server web-hook-based pubsub (publish/subscribe) protocol as an extension to Atom and RSS.

This tool is useful for both publishers and subscribers who subscribe to any blog or website through RSS or Atom. Publishers upon configuring this tool in their blog or website, whenever they add new content it will be updated to Google bots and the important benefit is when the publisher updates the content, it will update Google bots and RSS/Atom feeds, and with this functionality feed subscribers will be updated immediately after the blog post is updated along with time and date.

Using this tool Publishers can fight against plagiarism, for example if website A is generating unique and quality content regularly and if website B copies and post it in his website and tweak the date and time to the time before website A posts the content. When the Google bot crawls, it identifies website B’s content as unique and punish website A who is the original owner of the content over the time. By using this tool a publisher like website A can update Google bots on real time and avoid plagiarism. Additionally when you create a post if you update into social media, there is a chance of someone who can share it and Google will also consider it as one of the factor and recheck the originality of the content.

Automatically changing Page’s title into local language is considered as Cloaking?

Posted on  March 21, 2011  by  Betrand

Categories: Google, SEO
Tags: Cloaking, SEO

Cloaking is one of the search engine optimization (SEO) technique in which the content displayed to the user varies from the one showed to search engine or googlebot. Google uses geolocation, where it displays the target audience with the content related to their location that is assessed of the user based on the IP address of the user or through the cookies that have been stored.

It can be said that geolocation is not similar to cloaking if it does not provide special services to googlebot. Googlebot is Google software which crawls through various web documents to gather its own index for the search engine. For now, Googlebot only goes through US based IP address where the US visitor will search for the page and the content will be similar to that displayed for Googlebot.

Geolocation is fine until it only displays the content based on the physical location of the visitor, but it will be a matter of concern if the program has some coding where some special services are offered for Googlebot based on the user agent or IP address. If this is not the case then there is nothing to worry since geolocation will treat all the visitors with equal importance and show the same content to everyone without any discrimination.

After Yelp and Foursquare, Google started making improvements to its local search results page “Google Places” by distributing “Recommended on Google Places” stickers that can be sticked to walls or windows in the offices. For now it is getting distributed as a trail in Portland, USA. I heard similar kind of RFID technology with Sony’s Felica technology which is getting used for downloading local maps in train stations in Japan.

Here is how Google Places NFC looks like:
NFC Google Place

How it can be used:
Google supporting this with it’s latest Nexus-S phone, when you take the phone in front of the black dot in red balloon and wait for couple of seconds or by just waving it in front of the sticker, that’s it your mobile device/phone will get a “Google Places tag” recorded.

SEO for Mobile Phones

Posted on  February 8, 2011  by  Betrand

It looks like world is going towards Mobile and Technology Giants like Google are started to follow it now. Google recently tweaked its bots crawling mechanism and User Interface for Mobile Phones search. Here is the sample look of a search results page on mobile search. Mobile search results are built for mobile devices and are different from “standard” desktop results.

Mobile-search-Page

Here in this article i will give some tips to improve your website ranking in Google Mobile Search results and information on how to add your website into Google Mobile search results.

First step is to check whether your website is appearing in the Google Mobile search results or not, if your website doesn’t show up even if you check it by typing site:www.yourwebsitename.com in search option. Here are some of the reasons why your website isn’t got indexed by Google Mobile bots.

  1. Google Mobile bot may not be able to find your website: Your website must be able to be crawled by Googlebots for indexing and including it into search results. If you just built a website, it doesn’t mean that your website will be indexed properly by Goolge Mobile and web robots. If you have Mobile based business or you want to target mobile users as well, create a Mobile Sitemap and submit to Google using webmaster tools. more information on creating Mobile Sitemap is available here or mail to info@ibeesolutions.com for assistance.
  2. Some Mobile Sites built only for Mobile Phones which will restrict access to all other media other than Mobile Phones, for those kind of sites which needs restrictive access but want to appear in Google Mobile Search Results here is the option, you can allow Google Mobile site crawler bot “Googlebot-Mobile” manually, however doing it manually is risky because Google may change its bot name anytime. Here is the exact code to add
    SetEnvIf User-Agent "Googlebot-Mobile" allow_ua
  3. You need to check whether Google bot can recognize your mobile site URLs or not. It doesn’t mean that your website pages indexed in web results are to be indexed in Mobile results also, Google won’t include the pages that are viewable on Mobile Phones. It is very simple to resolve this if you follow some of the guidelines while building your mobile site. Below is the code you need to insert into your Mobile site on top of its pages.

If you have different versions of website for both mobile and web, here is the most common problem for site admins who run both mobile and web versions of a site is that the mobile version of the site appears for users on a desktop computer Google search results, or that the desktop version of the site appears when someone accesses it on a mobile device. To avoid this here are the two options available:

  1. Redirect Mobile user to an appropriate version, identify the user/crawler and redirect them to the mobile version of the same page.
  2. Identify the user-agent and switch the content based on the agent, if you can’t configure this properly you site may be blacklisted by Google as possible Cloaking website.
